The role of Hourouf Hayy in The appearance of Babism

Bahaismiran:

Seyyed Kazem Rashti[1] the successor of Ehsaee died in 1260 A.H. without electing anybody as his successor; so, his students arrived at a major disagreement over the issue of succession. Ali Muhammad Shirazi could establish Babism cult by the total support of Hourouf Hayy[2] who were; in fact, the Shiekism school. In this article, we try to investigate the role of Hourouf Hayy in establishing Babism cult.

After Seyyed Kazem Rashti’s death, his students decided to look for the promised Mehdi based on their master’s emphatic will in order to find his address. Thus, Mullah Hussein Boshrouiyee[3] along with two people and Mulla Ali Bastami[4] with twelve people and Mulla Muhammad Ali Barfroush[5] headed off aiming to find the promised Mehdi (P.H.) all around. First, Mulla Hussein Boshrouyee thought achieved the companion in Shiraz and visited the deputy of Imam Zaman [that is, Ali Muhammad Shirazi]. After believing in him Ali Muhammad introuduced himself as “Bab” and Mulla Hussein as “Bab-al-Bab”. After a while, Mulla Ali Bastami entered into Shiraz city, too. He believed in Ali Muhammad along with 12 people and assumed him as the gate of Imam Zaman (P.H.). At last, Qoddous entered in Shiraz city. In this way, 18 students of Rashti’s surrounded Bab and believed in him. Ali Muhammad Bab called them Hourouf Hayy.[6]

According to Nabil’s history, Ali Muhammad Shirazi waited for 18 people to believe in him in order to reveal his false claims. It is written narrated by Ali Muhammad: “18 faithful people believe in me… Then, I will elect one of them to come along with him to travel to Mecca. In Mecca, I will announce the divine order. Then, I’ll come back to Kufa. Next, I’ll reveal the divine order in Kufa mosque[7].”

Believing in Ali Muhammad Shirazi and supporting him by Hourouf Hayy caused an opportunity for Ali Muhammad to establish the malicious tree of Babism and to introduce himself as the gate for Imam Zaman (P.H.) and then divinity.
